Reliance Jio Free 4G Tariff might Stop on 3rd December 2016 for everyone – TRAI

Today we have just heard something that might blow up the minds of millions here in India who have been enjoying the free 4GB data offer from Reliance Jio. According to a TRAI guideline, a telecom operator cannot offer a promotion offer for more than 90 days and hence will have to stop the same by 3rd December.
If this is not done there would be a penalty but knowing reliance we think they might find a work around and go ahead with some solution to ensure that they can still continue the free offering & gain millions of subscribers to their network.

We got in touch with reliance for an update on this story & have received the following statement from them:

The JWO offer benefits of free unlimited Voice and data will be available to all subscribers up to 31st December 2016.
The JWO will be available to new consumers for subscription till 3rd Dec 2016.
Consumers who have not subscribed services till 3rd December will be able to subscribe to New offers as well as tariff plans that are available from Jio.1
Jio will continue offering consumer friendly plans to enhance Data and voice experience of all consumers.
Earlier: Reliance Jio might be extending it’s Free Data services after the Welcome Offer ends on January 1st 2017. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman & Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited announced the availability of JIO SIM cards to everyone in the country at their Annual General Meeting.

It is being reported that the young telecom giant might be extending its free unlimited data, voice and premium apps services access once the current Welcome Offer expires. Or it could be possible that tariffs would be slashed even before they go live from next year.

The main goal to extend the Welcome Offer might be to add millions of subscribers and reach the goal of 100 Million subscribers, which is given by Mukesh Ambani to his Jio Team at the AGM. Talking about the yesterday, the day marked the availability of JIO SIM cards under the Welcome Offer.

With wide availability across the nation, the Reliance Digital stores across the country saw a surge in footfall for Jio SIM. It is being reported that many consumers failed to receive SIM cards as they went out of stock at some select stores.

At some stores, e-KYC has been activated while most of the stores are still seeing the slow activation and long queues. Though, that won’t stop people coming in at Reliance stores anytime soon. Regardless of initial teething, an American firm, Morgan Stanley expects that the launch offer would help Jio establish a sizeable base of revenue generating subscribers.

While Data would be of significance at Reliance Jio, the other incumbent carriers would wait and watch as some carriers cut call charges as well as data charges. The current top telecom players report that most of the revenue comes from the voice calls, which accounts for over 75% of total revenue.

Most of the incumbents have announced extra benefits to their data packs including Airtel, Vodafone and Idea. While the 3G operators, Aircel and BSNL have also announced some special plans in the wake of Jio’s unlimited 4G data and voice offer.
